Dog Days of Summer

Now that summer is here, be sure to keep the health and safety of your companion animals in mind as the temperatures heat up. Here are some summer weather tips to keep them cool and comfortable, whether you’re traveling or at home.

Never take your animals with you in the car and leave them unattended for any length of time. Even with the windows slightly open, the temperature inside a car can reach 120 degrees in merely minutes. Your dog may want to come along with you while you do errands, but it’s kinder to leave him/her at home.

If left outside during the day, animals should have access to plenty of shade, even as the sun’s rays shift, and cool drinking water.

When traveling, carry water and provide your animals access to it frequently.
